WHO IS REALLY CRAZY !

OLD CRAZY ROUNDABOUT

It is very interesting to know the names of signals and roundabouts of Qatar, especially the name Crazy Signal. There are Sword signal, Slope roundabout, Pearl roundabout, Toyota signal, Gulf Cinema signal, Holiday Villa signal, Ramada signal, Mall signal, etc. but all these are named after a landmark. But why a signal is called crazy? 

I asked many senior residents in Qatar about this, the answer was quite amazing. Somebody said, the drivers here are too crazy but this was not the reason. 

This was a big roundabout consisting of two small roundabouts inside. You can say a combination of multiple roundabouts. It was under utter confusion, disorder and very tricky for the commuters especially for those who crossing it for the first time. Hence people started calling this roundabout as crazy roundabout, Dawar Al Karbata or Dawar Al Majnoon. 

CRAZY SIGNAL (25-2-2017)

Many motorists would never cross it. They would get into it and take free right and from the next roundabout they make u turn and come back to the same crazy roundabout and then turn right again and so on until the right turn was the one they wanted. 

Around 16 years before this roundabout was demolished and made one single big roundabout. But the name remained the same as crazy roundabout, Dawar Al Karbata or Dawar Al Majnoon.

During infrastructure development for Asian Games 2006, this single roundabout was also demolished and made the present signal. But again the name continued as “CRAZY SIGNAL".
